30 New Leaders of Amhara Region

1. Dr. Yilikal Kefale became regional president

He got his Ph.D. in social anthropology from an Indian university.

He has work experience as vice president and president of Debre Markos University and he was serving as Head of the Amhara region education bureau.

From 1999 to 2005 he worked as vice president of academic research at Debre Markos University. In 2005 He became the university’s president and served in that position until 2006. Prior to his current position, he was working as leader of the Amhara Region Education Bureau.

2. Fantu Tesfaye became Spokeswoman 

Fantu Tesfaye Alemu was chosen to be the spokeswoman. She was the only nominee for this position. Prior to Fantu, the spokeswoman was W/ro Worksemu Mamo.

Fantu Tesfaye got her Bachelor’s degree in law from

Wollo University and her Master’s degree in management from Bahir Dar University. She was elected in Kalu election woreda no. 1 representing prosperity party.

Her work experience includes spokeswoman for the Kombolcha City Administration and the head of revenues office for Kalu woreda. She also served as south wollo revenues office head. Since the previous (5th) election she served as a member of the region’s tourism human resource committee

During her appointment, she promised to serve the people with loyalty and accountability. Unfortunately, she said this election was unique in a sense because it represented the people’s choice. This kind of speech had been repeated so many times by Amhara Prosperity Party members without adding any value to the people. The party was previously known as National Amhara Democratic Movement.

She urged the regional parliament to serve with commitment in order to bring an end to the identity crisis they are facing.

3. Getachew Jember became 1st Vice President of the Region

Getachew Jember got his bachelor’s degree in economics and his master’s degree in organizational leadership. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. in industrial economics. He served as Leader of the North Gondar zone.

4. Dr. Sema Tiruneh became 2nd vice president

Dr. Sema Tiruneh is the 2nd vice president in administration cluster management. He got his Ph.D. in business management. He had work experience in the Awi zone in different positions. He also worked as vice president of the region's communication office and consultant of the region’s president.

5. Aynalem Nigusie became 3rd vice president

Aynalem Nigusie as vice president as coordinator in economic issues. She was chosen by Dr. Yilkal Kefale. She got her bachelor’s degree in business management and master’s degree in business administration. She worked as a teacher and vice president position in Wollo University.

6. Seyoum Mekonnen became the 4th vice president

Seyoum Mekonnen is chosen for vice president position as social issues cluster coordinator. He got his bachelor’s degree in business administration and master’s degree in social work leadership from a foreign country which wasn’t mentioned specifically. He worked for two media platforms of our country, and he also worked in different positions for woreda administration.

Tahir Mohammed  is a member of NAMA (Abin) became head of the Tourism Bureau
